More content moving to redesigned DHS public website
Adult protective services, home and community services for seniors, Indian Elder Desk, Ombudsman for Long -Term Care and nursing homes content is moving within the DHS website. The move is part of a redesign of the department's public website to improve its usability. To help website users find content, DHS will temporarily redirect key links. If you have bookmarked this content or added it to favorites, you will need to update these links. More information about the redesign is online.
Circle of Excellence Awards seeking nominations
Nominations are being accepted for the annual Commissioner's Circle of Excellence Awards, which recognize excellence among human services providers, counties, advocacy groups and other organizations that work in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Human Services to help people meet their basic needs so they can live in dignity and achieve their highest potential. Nominations are being accepted through 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29. For each nomination, fill out the Commissioner's Circle of Excellence Awards Nomination form (PDF). Circle of Excellence Award winners for 2013 are highlighted in a news release and in short videos on the DHS website.
2014 legislative session fact sheets now available online
Fact sheets summarizing highlights of the 2014 legislative session are now available on DHS’ website. A fact sheet providing an overview of changes affecting human services (PDF) is included, along with fact sheets on expanded facilities for early childhood learning (PDF), improved safety at Minnesota Security Hospital (PDF) and the new background study law (PDF).
Follow DHS pages on LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube
"Follow," or subscribe to updates, from the Minnesota Department of Human Services on social media sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube. The department recently added an official DHS home page to LinkedIn, a professional networking site, featuring job postings at DHS facilities. DHS' YouTube channel features videos produced or sponsored by the department. DHS' Twitter feed "tweets" out department news releases and events, job postings, and other information about programs and services.
Minnesota takes key steps in fight against opiate abuse
Efforts to curb a wave of prescription drug abuse and addiction to other opiates marked the first full year of the Minnesota State Substance Abuse Strategy. Minnesota met the strategy’s immediate goals to increase education for physicians and other front-line professionals about treatments for opioid dependence, how abuse of opioid-based prescription drugs can lead to addiction to other opiates like heroin and how to reverse an opiate overdose. More information is in a news release about the substance abuse strategy's first-year report.
Commissioner Jesson announces agency goals for 2014
DHS Commissioner Lucinda Jesson has announced agency goals and action steps for 2014. The goals and action steps with a focus on people, innovation, equity and integrity are contained in the document Framework for the Future: 2014 (PDF), which is available on the DHS website. This direction builds on accomplishments from the past year (PDF).
2012 County Human Service Cost Report is available online
The annual Minnesota County Human Service Cost Report for Calendar Year 2012 (PDF) is available on DHS’ website. The report contains statewide and county-specific costs and revenue shares for economic support, health and social service programs. The report combines county fiscal activity, DHS centralized activity for counties, federal and state payments and computation of the county funded share — it is the big picture of Minnesota’s county-administered, state supervised human services system. Narrative descriptions and notes, a graphic overview, trend data and per-capita comparative data are included.
DHS dashboard on public website
DHS has a dashboard where the public can go for information on the agency’s performance in key areas. It is designed to be a visitor-friendly tool where Minnesotans can see the department’s goals in different areas, where it is on track to meet those goals and where more work is needed.
Self-sufficiency and health care statistics report is online
The Family Self-Sufficiency and Health Care Program Statistics available through June 2014 (PDF) report is available online. The report, compiled by the Reports and Forecasts Division, includes caseload numbers and expenditures for cash, emergency and food assistance programs and health care programs.
